Why I Create Animal Portraits With Wool — Not Paint
Hi, I’m Aslıhan.
I'm from Ankara, Turkey.
I create handmade wool portraits of animals — and there’s a special reason why I chose wool over traditional paints.
Ever since I was a child, I’ve felt a deep connection with animals.
When I was a little girl, my biggest dream was to have a dog.
I’d write about it in my diary, imagining every detail — the cuddles, the joy, the friendship.
But there was one problem: I was allergic to furry animals and even dust.
I wasn’t supposed to touch them.
Still, whenever I saw a dog, a cat, or even a bird, I couldn't help myself — I reached out.
Even if it made me sneeze or itch, that brief moment of touch — the warmth of their fur or feathers — brought me pure joy.
It felt like magic. Like love. Like being seen.
Years later, I found that feeling again… in wool.
Wool is soft, warm, comforting — and full of life.
It feels alive in your hands, just like animals do.
That’s why I don’t work with oil paint, watercolor, or pastels.
They’re beautiful, but they’re distant.
Wool, on the other hand, invites closeness. It offers comfort. It’s something you can touch — and be touched by.
Now I create custom animal portraits using wool — from dogs and cats to parrots, pigeons, and beyond.
No matter the species, every animal has its own spirit, its own presence — and I do my best to capture that with care and softness.
Each portrait is more than art.
It’s a tribute. A memory. A feeling you can hold in your hands.
So if you love animals the way I do — If you want to bring the soul of a beloved creature into your home in a way that feels warm, personal, and real —
You’re in the right place.
📦 Before long, a special package will arrive at your door — handmade, heartfelt, and created just for you.
This is more than decoration.
It’s warmth you can touch.
Your animal. Your story. Your art.
Let’s create something meaningful together —
A portrait that brings warmth to your hands, and character to your space.
